The Islands

On our next update, we'll cover some of the island stops and the various shore excursions available. Many of these can be booked directly with Carnival to ensure your reservation or you can venture out on your own and pick and choose activities that meet your own adventure style.

Passport Requirements

Yes, you'll need a passport to travel to the Caribbean.

Although several of the islands are US territories, several are not. Hence, the need for a US Passport.

The requirements and guidelines for passport is listed on the the US government web site <here>. The typical method of getting a passport is through the US post offices. They will assist with completing the forms and processing your passport application.

Here is the basic rundown on our plans as it sits today. We've selected Carnival Cruise Lines, the date is set for June 21st, 2009 and the target world location is the Southern Caribbean.

We'll fly into San Juan Puerto Rico. We need to make sure that we have planned our flights to ensure there is extra time for any flight delays. The ship pulls out of port at 10:00 PM. A few of us have plans to arrive in San Juan a day or two early (just to ensure the ships doesn't leave without us) to take advantage of enjoying a little bit of Puerto Rico before the cruise. I should also mention that a number of us are also staying in San Juan for 3-5 days after the cruise too. If you have ever been to San Juan or checked out photos of the island, you'll understand why. In fact, look in the photo album here on this site to see the photos from our trip in June 2005.
